Next week marks the beginning of the 39th edition of Tour de Hongrie, Hungary’s biggest stage bicycle race. The 5-stage race, which will take place between 14 and 19 August, will begin in Siófok, a well-known resort town on the shores of Lake Balaton, and will take the competing teams across 865 km through ten different Hungarian counties to the Northern Hungarian town of Kazinbarcika. The race will feature 19 teams from several different countries, including the Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum continental team from Slovenia. Hungary will be represented by its National Team, as well as the Pannon Cycling Team and the Kőbánya Cycling Team.

The first Tour de Hongrie was organized in 1925 by Hungarian cyclist inspired by the Tour the France. Since then the race has evolved into Hungary’s biggest cycling competition drawing competitors from all over the world. Last year’s race was won by Colombia’s Daniel Jaramillo.
