On 9 October 2021, Gábor Bakos, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Hungary in Ljubljana took part in the Hungarian-Slovenian bilingual Holy Mass and commemoration of the victims of the First World War, organized by the Order of St. George and the Szombathely based GRÁDICS Association at the St. Martin church in Kostanjevica na Krasu.

The World War I memorial sites found in Kostanjevica na Krasu and its surroundings are some of the most important for Hungary. The still existing school building in Kostanjevica na Krasu served as the field headquarters of Archduke Joseph August of Austria, commanding general of the Seventh Austro-Hungarian Corps. His headquarters were hit by a heavy Italian mortar attack on 5 August 1916. The so-called Segeti encampment, the resting encampment of the Austro-Hungarian troops fighting on the Doberdob plain, was located north of Kostanjevica na Krasu.
