On the 16th of July 2017 the Hungarian historic train “Isonzo Express” arrived to Slovenia for a five day commemorative tour of the Isonzo Front sites, this year taking place under the patronage of Mr. László Kövér, President of the National Assembly of Hungary and Mr. Milan Brglez, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.

The train’s third annual tour, which brings about 500 tourists from Hungary to Slovenia, marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Caporetto, the final battle of the Isonzo Front. The passengers riding the train will take part in guided tours of Slovenian and Italian WWI sites and monuments. On the first day of the tour they were joined by the presidents, who boarded the train in Jesenice and rode it to the Most na Soči train station, one of the most important Austro-Hungarian military supply railway stations at the time of the Isonzo battles. The presidents visited the station’s memorial room arranged to look like an old-time waiting room, then took part in a commemoration at the Modrejce military cemetery. Around 1600 Austro-Hungarian soldiers are buried at the cemetery, among them several hundred Hungarians. The fallen soldiers were commemorated with military honors and wreath laying.
