On 13 March 2023, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér was on an official visit to Slovenia at the invitation of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič.

The Speaker also met with the President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar and the President of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia Marko Lotrič. The Speaker and his Slovenian interlocutors agreed that the relations between the two countries are excellent and the situation of the Hungarian national community in Slovenia and the Slovenian national community in Hungary is exemplary. They also discussed the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation, as well as current international political topics, such as the war in Ukraine and the European integration of the Western Balkan countries. At the initiative of the Municipality of Kranj, a statue of Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, contemporary of Slovenian poet France Prešeren, created by sculptor László Hunyadi was unveiled in Kranj. The unveiling was part of the celebrations in honor of Hungarian National Day, the 15th of March, organized by our Embassy and attended by Hungarians living in Slovenia, as well as the Hungarian Speaker and the Slovenian President of the National Assembly. At the reception, held at the Kranj town hall, the mayors of Kranj and Székesfehérvár signed a letter of intent establishing a sister city relationship between the two cities. After the event, the Speaker also held talks with representatives of the Hungarian national community in Prekmurje in Lendava.
