On the 26th of August 2017 the traditional Bogračfest was held in Lendava. Several thousand people attended the popular culinary festival, with 91 teams (the highest number to date) participating in the main event – the bograč cooking competition. A number of teams arrived from Hungary in order to take part in the competition.

This year’s festival was also attended by the Hungarian Minister of Agriculture Mr Sándor Fazekas. The Minister, Ambassador Edit Szilágyiné Bátorfi and the Consul General in Lendava, Mr Gyula Földes also met with the leading representatives of the Pomurje Hungarian Self-Governing National Community (MMÖNK/PMSNS). The Minister said after the meeting that the Hungarian Government is committed to supporting the Hungarian national communities living outside of their homeland.

Mr Ferenc Horváth, the president of the MMÖNK/PMSNS stated that the 500 million Forint financial support, which the Hungarian Government allocated for the Hungarian national community in the framework of its Program for the Economic Development of Pomurje, was a big step forward in terms of promoting the national community’s development and progress. A large part of the funds will be used to finance agricultural development projects, which should help improve the lives of Hungarian farmers and their families living in Pomurje and should prevent them from leaving the area. Beside farming and winemaking, the Hungarian community also plans to focus on agrotourism, since Lendava and its surroundings with the Lendava castle, numerous cultural events that take place there and a number of excellent thermal baths are the perfect tourist destination.
