Hungarian ultra-athlete Pál Hidvégi-Üstös will be the first person in the world to run 3,000 kilometres, all the way along the stretch of the Danube.

The athlete started his run on 21 September from the spring of the Danube, Donaueschingen in the Black Forest and will run across 10 countries as far as the river’s mouth at the Black Sea, where he is expected to arrive on 8 December. The patron of this extreme sports achievement is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, in charge of the Hungarian Presidency of the Danube Region Strategy. The run is intended to raise awareness on environmentally friendly transport and to draw attention to the objectives of the Danube Region Strategy. The ultra-marathoner plans to arrive in Budapest on 18 October, to the 6th Annual Forum of the Danube Region Strategy, to give an account of his experiences.
